    Description

Situated in the centre of town the Motueka District museum is housed in the old Motueka District High School building (1913) right in the centre of town. The museum frontage is used as a central public meeting place. The building itself has been registered with NZ Historic Places Trust since 2002.

The museum displays artifacts from Motueka’s past and has changing exhibitions which reflect on local history. There is also a public research room where visitors can learn more of the history of the area or that of their ancestors. Members of the Motueka Historical Association are available on Tuesdays to assist in research. The research room is open museum hours.

We work to tell the stories of our district from the past to the present day. From the early Maori settlement to the European pioneers and the development of Motueka as a thriving township with its rural, horticultural, and fishing roots.

    Admission is by donation.
