Hauora Hokianga is a community organisation, owned and governed by the people of Hokianga, that provides a comprehensive range of free health and community services to enrolled people who reside within the Hokianga area of Northland, New Zealand.
GP Services
Hauora Hokianga offers general practice services at ten locations throughout Hokianga.
Community Health & Wellbeing Services
Our Community Health & Wellbeing Services offer an integrated, comprehensive approach to care across the Hokianga. We provide general practitioner services alongside community and district nursing, delivered through a network of ten rural health clinics located throughout the region.
Maternity Services
We offer an integrated maternity service including Lead Maternity Carer, Hospital Birthing Facilities, Obstetrics, Primary Health Care, and childhood health, including support for breastfeeding, parenting support, well-child tamariki ora, and immunisations.
Inpatient Medical Services
Our hospital based in Rawene offers a ten-bed acute care inpatient service for the residents of Hokianga as well as a twelve-bed residential, hospital and rest home level aged care facility.
Taumata Rongoā
We offer a traditional, natural, and holistic healing approach grounded in cultural values and guided by local knowledge of tikanga practices. Our care is based on a multi-dimensional framework that nurtures and reaffirms connections across all aspects of wellbeing:
Wairua – spiritual and belief
Hinengaro – psychological and emotional
Tinana – physical
Whānau/Whanaungatanga – cultural, family, home, marae, environment, and community
A range of Mirimiri therapies are available, supported by locally made rongoā products and resources to promote ongoing health and wellbeing.
Ara Rongoā Whakaora
The Ara Rongoā Whakaora (Revitalisation Health and Wellbeing Walkway) features gardens that integrate Rongoā and organic food sources. These gardens serve as both a learning centre and a space for sustainable harvesting.
They provide:
Korari for raranga (weaving)
Rongoā rākau for traditional healing
Organic kai to be shared between the hospital and wider community
This space also offers a peaceful environment for reflection and restoration—supporting the wellbeing of those who need time to reset and reconnect with te taiao (the natural world).
