Imagine coming to school or work every day, wondering if your professors will treat you differently or your peers will accept you. This is too often the case for LGBTQ students and staff. The Crafton Hills College Safe Space program offers introductory training to college employees, students, and local community members, to support them in providing support and referrals to LGBT students and community members. Those who complete the training have the option to advertise themselves as “ campus allies.” These allies create safe spaces by being open in their support and acting as advocates. The program also helps students of diverse backgrounds identify Crafton Hills College faculty, staff and administrators whom they can approach for support and guidance without fear or judgment. Safe Space helps to establish a campus as an inclusive and educational environment where all members can engage, learn, and advance.
