Circus Kumarani is a social-arts based community service that utilises circus classes, productions, and workshops for health, education, and social development. It was founded in 2003 by a group of like-minded circus performers and social workers, and aimed towards people of all ages and abilities.
Circus Kumarani provides a variety of programmes for Dargaville township and Whangārei city, as well as partnerships with a teacher in Kaitaia and performing arts groups in Waipū. The list of programmes includes Fire Jams, Adult and Youth programmes, Open Circus Jams, hoola-hooping, juggling, aerial, and pole dancing lessons as well as movement and balance classes for under-fives. Circus Kumarani also works in tandem with primary and intermediate schools in incorporating circus with physical education, performing arts and drama, and also with NCEA approved unit standards for secondary school students. Circus Kumarani offers a unique experience to develop valued skills as well as being incredibly enthusiastic about connecting with people in the community.
