Canterbury Museum

Located in the central city next to the Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum is one of Christchurch’s most popular attractions. Entry is free and donations are appreciated.

See more than 1,000 pāua shells at the world-famous kiwiana icon, Fred & Myrtle’s Pāua Shell House. The Christchurch Street and Victorian Museum recreate the nineteenth-century city.

See historic decorative objects with local significance in the Mountfort Gallery, and head upstairs to explore New Zealand’s largest collection of Chinese art and antiquities in the Asian Arts gallery.

Regular special New Zealand and international exhibitions are also on display.
